CertainTeed 902008 Air Barrier and Smart Vapor Retarder

Unfaced batts in a new wall need something on the warm side, and the CertainTeed smart vapor retarder, product 902008, is a membrane that works as a continuous air barrier as well. The maker describes it as changing with the season: more permeable in humid summer weather so a wall cavity can dry out, and tighter in winter to hold moisture back, while staying airtight all year. It’s offered as an alternative to kraft-faced insulation or polyethylene sheeting, so a builder, an insulation crew or a homeowner finishing an addition would use it.

The name carries “8 100” with no units; that may be the roll size, but the listing doesn’t say, so email us and we’ll read the label.

From retailer return and overstock loads, a roll like this can be new, open-box or a return, sold as-is. Check for torn or creased membrane at the roll ends and whether any has been cut off already. [email protected] can look first.
